If there’s anything you’re not clear about, you’ll probably find the answer to your question below. If your question isn’t answered here, you can call us at 604.684.9542 or use the form at the bottom of the page to email us..
When can I start?
Many of our classes are ongoing drop-in so you can start anytime you like. This means you drop in to a beginner class if that’s your level and when you feel you’ve improved to the extent that it isn’t challenging anymore, you move on. Basically, the class doesn’t progress level-wise, you move on to the next level class.
We also have PROGRESSIVE WORKSHOPS for the complete beginner that run in 7 or 8 week sessions. If you can commit to a regular class at a specific time each week we highly recommend these workshops. You can find out about them by clicking on the Progressive Workshop box on the Main Page.
Tap and Belly Dance also run more advanced Progressive Workshops.
MUSICAL THEATRE WORKSHOPS run 3 times during the year in 8 week sessions
The cost of the classes can be found on our Rates Page, and the Progressive Workshops are priced individually on the Registation Page. Member/non-member price.
On the Main Page you can click the Progressive Workshop box and the form will come up.

What age are your students/ How old do I have to be
Our students are mature teenagers and adults of all ages. Our youngest is 14 at this time in some of the drop in classes, but most of our students are 16 and up.
How are the classes structured?
All of the classes start with some kind of warm-up exercises. For example, in ballet, you start at the barre. After the warm-up, you work on short combinations of steps and moves and finally, a choreographed combination that changes week to week.
How much time do I have to spend at each level?
It varies so much from one person to the next that it’s impossible to answer. We leave the decision up to you. However, we do recommend that you stay at a particular level until you’ve reached some degree of mastery.
How many classes per week do you recommend I take?
You’ll improve the most if you’re doing at least 3 classes a week but you’ll get something out of doing any classes at all, of course.
Do I need a card or membership?
No. If you plan to come regularly – once a week or more –you’ll save money by getting a membership and then a class card, but it’s not necessary. (See Rates)
How many people are there in class?
It varies from week to week and class to class. Generally, the beginner classes are larger (as many as 40 people), particularly in the classes like Hip Hop.
Do you have parking?
No. There are paid parking lots on either side of Granville south of Nelson and there is metered street parking after 6 pm. We are well served by transit as well.
What is Modern dance?
Please see Classes for a description of all the dance classes we offer.
What should I wear?
If you don't have dance attire, wear anything comfortable in which you can freely move and sweat. In terms of footwear, you don't need special shoes at the beginner level except for Tap, where tap shoes are required. For Hip Hop bring a pair of clean running shoes, and for the other classes, wear socks or go barefoot.
Do you have showers and lockers?
We don’t have showers. We do have lockers that we rent out on a monthly or annual basis at very reasonable rates. If you don’t have a locker, take your belongings with you into the studio.
Can I book a private lesson?
You have to approach your instructor yourself and ask them if you can set up a private lesson. Many of them are available for privates. You'll need to ask the instructor for rates and availability.
